Terms of Service
Welcome! School Squad is a private calendar for homeschool groups. It is run by Plot & Root LLC, an Iowa limited liability company (“we”, “us”). These terms explain the deal in plain language. By creating an account, starting a group, or joining one, you agree to them.
1. Who can use School Squad
- Accounts are for adults (18+). Kids don’t get their own accounts.
- One family account per household. Each adult in that family (2 included, more at +$5/yr) signs in with their own email. Please don’t share sign-in codes or let people outside your household use your account.
- You agree to give us a real email address you can check. We sign you in by emailing you a one-time code.
2. Plans and prices
Everything is billed yearly, in US dollars:
| Plan | Price per year |
|---|---|
| Host (runs the group) | $100 |
| Co-host (a group can have 2 co-hosts instead of 1 host) | $50 each |
| Member family (includes 2 adults) | $20 |
| Each extra adult in a family | +$5 |
2a. 30-day free trial for families
- New member families get a 30-day free trial with full access. Host and co-host seats don’t have a trial.
- A card is required to start the trial. Nothing is charged on day 1.
- On day 30 we charge your first year ($20, plus $5 for each extra adult), unless you cancel before then in Manage billing. We email you a reminder 7 days before the trial ends.
- One free trial per family. A family, adult email, or card that has already had a trial won’t get another one, including after leaving and rejoining or joining a second group. In that case the first charge happens right away.
- Founding groups stay free and don’t need a trial.
Adding an extra adult partway through the year is prorated to your family’s renewal date. We’ll show the total before you pay. If we ever change prices, we’ll email you at least 30 days before your next renewal, and the new price applies only from that renewal.
3. Automatic renewal
Your subscription renews automatically every year on the date you first paid, and we charge the card on file unless you cancel first. We’ll email you a reminder 14 days before each yearly renewal, with the amount and date.
4. Cancelling
You can cancel anytime from Manage billing (in My family or Account). When you cancel, auto-renew is turned off and you keep access until the end of the year you already paid for. After that your seat ends. If a host or co-host cancels, the group may lose features or be locked once no paid host seat remains.
5. Refunds
We don’t give partial or prorated refunds for cancelling partway through a year, for unused time, or for removed families or adults.
One exception: if a group is started on the 2-co-host plan and the second co-host never joins, the co-host who paid gets a full refund of their co-host payment.
If you were charged by mistake (for example, a duplicate charge), email us and we’ll make it right.
6. Payments
Payments are processed by Stripe. Your card details go straight to Stripe; we never see or store your full card number. Stripe’s own terms also apply to payments.
7. Hosts and groups
- Hosts and co-hosts are responsible for their group: who they invite or remove, and the events, lessons and posts in it.
- Every member is responsible for what they post. Be kind, keep it family-friendly, and don’t post anything illegal or anyone else’s private information.
- We may remove content or suspend accounts that break these terms or put others at risk.
8. Events and library information
School Squad is a calendar tool. We don’t organize, run, supervise or check any events, field trips, lessons or meetups, and we aren’t responsible for what happens at them. Parents and guardians are always responsible for their own children.
Library events are gathered automatically from public library websites. We can’t promise library information is accurate or up to date. Always check with the library before you go.
9. The service
We work hard to keep School Squad running, but it’s provided “as is”. It may sometimes be down, change, or have bugs. To the extent the law allows, our total liability to you is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, and we aren’t liable for indirect or consequential losses.
10. Ending things
You can stop using School Squad at any time and ask us to delete your data (see the Privacy Policy). If we ever shut the service down, we’ll give at least 30 days’ notice and refund any unused paid time.
11. Changes and law
If we make important changes to these terms, we’ll email you before they take effect. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Iowa.
